So everyone is all like “OMG POT” today… I really don’t understand it at all. …

Wikipedia describes it as

420, 4:20 or 4/20 (pronounced four-twenty) refers to consumption of cannabis and, by extension, a way to identify oneself with cannabissubculture. 4/20 is sometimes referred to as “Weed Day” or “Pot Day”. ‘^[1]

The term was coined from a group of teenagers at San Rafael High School in San Rafael, California, United States in 1971.^[2][3] The teens would meet after school at 4:20 p.m. to smoke marijuana outside the school.^[4]

According to an April 2009 article on the The Huffington Post, the group called itself the Waldos because its members hung out by a wall after school. Writer Ryan Grim, citing interviews with anonymous Waldos, claims that the group met by the statue at 4:20 p.m. to begin a search for a crop of abandoned cannabis growing near Point Reyes that they had heard about. They never found the stash, Grim writes, but smoked plenty of marijuana while looking for it.^[5]

Why do these pot heads need a special DAY to smoke pot.  I mean it isn’t like they don’t do it all the time anyway.  They will argue that it isn’t addictive or that it isn’t as bad as alcohol.  Bullshit. Marijuana is certainly addictive and as bad if not worse than alcohol.  If it is so safe, why are my friends so afraid that I might tell my father on them? No, it isn’t because they don’t think he is cool… It is because they know he is a addiction psychologist and knows that they are full of nonsense.

Look, smoking pot doesn’t make you cool.  It doesn’t make you smarter.  It isn’t safe and it is also very stupid.  I respect your opinion and “right” so to speak to do what you wish with your body, but the whole idea of pot really turns me off.  It isn’t sexy and it is pretty gross too.

In the end, far be it from me to stop you from being stupid, but just consider that you may be alienating yourself from people and you won’t even realize it.  I know that pot is a MAJOR turn off for me but I generally don’t dwell on those sorts of things.  I found it appropriate to post this today as I have heard many a commercial for all these sales at various “hookah” shops and “cigarette” stores.  Sure… your items are only “novelty” or for “tobacco.” Whatever gets you around the law I suppose.

While that is said and I think it is stupid to smoke pot, why not legalize it.  Tax it and charge out the wazzoo for it.  If people want to destroy their bodies, let them.  Make money off them too like they do with cigarettes and alcohol.  We have a budget deficit and that can probably easily be fixed with a tax on marijuana.

In the end, I don’t hate you if you smoke pot.  I don’t plan to disassociate myself from you and I still will call you my friend.  Just think about what you are doing though… Is it really the right thing to do?  You be the judge. You know my opinion.
